Double Transplant Success

    Double transplant recipient Richard Mangino

A quadruple amputee in Massachusetts is praising Doctors in Boston for giving him arms and hands again.

FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony has the story:

    Richard Mangino had a dream.

“To once again have arms. To have hands.”

And Doctor Simon Talbot made it come true last week.

Leading a team of 14 surgeons, giving him a double transplant, attached mid-forearm.

“Just days post-surgery, Mr. Mangino began independently moving his fingers.”

    Which Mangino calls:

    “A miracle.”

The 65 year-old lost his arms and legs to a terrible infection in 2002.

“The one thing I have prayed for, was to be able to feel the sense of touch again.”

They’ve also done face transplants at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital; and Director Bo Pomahac says:

“We stand at the forefront of unprecedented treatment options of the most severe traumatic injuries.”
