Kevin Faulconer: Real Leadership Is “Demanding Our Public Schools Open Now, Not Months From Now”

On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, GOP candidate for Governor and former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer explains why he wants to take on Governor Gavin Newsom in a recall election and highlights the lack of leadership Newsom has shown during the COVID crisis.

“I’ve been highlighting so much of the failed leadership. It is leadership, it’s you stand up and say there’s no reason why private schools are open. Teachers are safely teaching and kids are in the classroom safely learning because those schools report to parents. But yet the public schools, that ultimately report to Gavin Newsom have been closed, because he’s allowed this to happen. A governor is about standing up and doing the right thing and demanding that our public schools are open now, not months from now, not next semester. And the fact, again, that we’re seeing not just the learning loss, but the mental health issues that that are just astounding. And to have a governor that gives lip service but yet doesn’t stand up and actually do the job necessary and talks a lot about equity, what’s not equitable that our kids are not in school,

“Parents that are working are having to choose between their job and what they’re going to do with kids at home and learning. Parents are having to pay money out of their own pocket for tutors or having to help with school supplies. All of this is absolutely unnecessary if the governor would say our kids need to be back in school. The fact that states all across this great country of ours have been able to do this, and yet California under Gavin Newsom’s failed leadership has not. Again, I think that speaks volumes to why the recall is so popular and why that there is a sense of absolute urgency that we need to have leadership and somebody new at the top.”
