“We’re Covering Things As News Live That Happened Weeks Earlier” Brit Hume On DNC Convention’s Prerecorded Speeches
Brit Hume, Senior political analyst for Fox News Channel spoke with Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson about the first night of the DNC Convention. Hume commented on the several prerecorded speeches. Saying,
“Well, you know, I think what it tells us is how far we’ve come with these with these party conventions. You know, used to be we covered party conventions because that’s where the nominee was chosen and the vice presidential nominee as well. And sometimes the convention had to vote on both. And then even after those days ended with the advent of the primaries and caucuses, which became the principal instruments of selection, you know, we had platform fights that mattered. And and sometimes the race was close and even into the even into the into the convention. Those days are long gone. So it’s become for many cycles now, a four day party commercial to be reported about and commented on by by the news media. We cover them almost to the same extent that we used to not live throughout the evening, but with very intense coverage. Now we’re covering things as news live that happened weeks earlier and, you know, I mean, it is one thing to have a prepared speech that might be sitting around for a few days. It’s quite another to have a canned speech that’s been sitting around for weeks. And we covered it all in our live broadcasts. I think it’s you know, you might want to rethink that going forward.”
