Housecall for Health: Early Onset Alzheimer’s

A rarer form of Alzheimer’s is affecting people at a younger age, even a famous college basketball coach.

FOX’s Karlie Pouliot reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

Alzheimer’s afflicts nearly half of people 85 and older, but it’s not just the elderly who face this bleak diagnosis.

It also affects 5% of people 65 and under, including legendary University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Coach Pat Summitt.  The 59-year-old said she’s been diagnosed with early onset dementia, which is an uncommon form of the disease that begins in middle age.  This type also tends to run in families, with many people having a parent or grandparent who developed Alzheimer’s at a younger age.
