Rep. Andy Biggs: “Over-Reactionary” Governors Are Taking Businesses Away From People

On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) discusses whether the President or the states should decide when the economy can finally open again.

“You’ve got governors who’ve made, in my opinion, over-reactionary economic decisions that have basically taken businesses and property from people. And so the state should be on the hook for that. But in the meantime, the states have gone to the federal government. This is part of the upside-down-ness of this whole thing that’s been going on for decades here, so the states go to the feds, the feds then try to impose criteria, requirements, mandates at the same time that they’re providing all kinds of material and expertise. And then the states say, well okay, we got it, we don’t want it from you. In reality, the state’s governors should be making these decisions. Many of them have made decisions, however, without constitutional or legal authority. So we’re in a scrambled eggs mess right now. And I think the President’s trying to make the point, hey, look, he’s come to us and we need to get this thing open sooner rather than later. And then you get the governor saying, well, we want to make the decision. And I think ultimately it is a state’s decision to make. But they’re going to have to own what the federal government has given them.”
