FOX on Tech: HP Out of the Mobile Business

It’s a big change in business plans for Hewlett-Packard, as they decide that mobile technology just isn’t for them.

The biggest maker of PCs and printers with one of the most dramatic makeovers in its 72-year history, announcing it’s ending its tablet computer and smartphone businesses and is considering selling its PC business.

The PC division is Hewlett Packard’s biggest revenue generator, but its least profitable division, and rumors have been flying for the past six months that the company has been in negotiations to spin it off.  But the tablet and smartphone announcement coming as a surprise—in 2009, HP paid $1.8 billion for smartphone maker Palm.
