FOX in the Fast Lane: Newman Picks Up Important Win
With only the top 10 spots guaranteed places in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, Sunday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon gave drivers a chance to improve their position in the standings.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig tells us who took advantage as he takes us back to the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 in “FOX in the Fast Lane”…
Two of the drivers needing points the most found themselves in a sprint to the finish at the Lenox Industrial Tools 301, with Ryan Newman holding off a hard-charging Tony Stewart to win the “Extra Mile at the Magic Mile.”
“Well, we did what we had to do. We gotta thank the U.S. Army – this one’s for the soldiers, thank you, guys. We’ve been working so hard to get this U.S. Army Chevrolet into Victory Lane.”

Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson round out the top five.
With the win, Newman jumps to 8th in the Sprint Cup standings, leapfrogging Dale Earnhardt, Jr – the top 10’s only winless driver. Stewart sits tied with Hamlin in the all-important 10th place spot.
Carl Edwards retakes Cup’s pole position despite finishing 13th. His lead now sits at seven points over Johnson. Former leader Kyle Busch had a short day, finishing 36th and falling to 5th heading into the Brickyard next week.
