FOX’s Chad Pergram talks about the Speaker’s Race in today’s “Speaker’s Lobby.”

I’m Chad Pergram with the Speaker’s Lobby.

House Democrats head into the Thanksgiving recess with little clarity as to whether House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi can get the votes to become Speaker of the House next year. A small group of Democratic lawmakers are holding out threatening to block the California Democrat from securing 218 votes on the floor in January. Then there’s uncertainty from Democratic Ohio Congresswoman Marcia Fudge. She says she may challenge Pelosi, but won’t announce until after Thanksgiving. Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn is running for Majority Leader. Clyburn says Fudge is “ruminating” on a bid. But says any campaign by Fudge is threat to him, Pelosi and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer who’s running for Majority Leader. The Pelosi/Hoyer/Clyburn troika has led House Democrats for more than a decade. And all three are pushing 80.

What happens if Pelosi doesn’t have the votes? One senior House Democratic lawmaker said that if Pelosi is short, it’s a question of “who blinks first? Is it Nancy or the Caucus?” Another Senior House Democrat told Fox “it’s going to get ugly.”
