There’s a new face in the House Republican leadership, with an old name: Cheney. As in Republican Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney. The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
House Republicans unanimously tapped Cheney to serve as GOP Conference Chairwoman, the third-highest ranking position in their hierarchy. People remember Dick Cheney as Vice President and even Defense Secretary. But more than 30 years ago, Dick Cheney also held the number three leadership post for House Republicans when he was a Congressman from Wyoming. Dick Cheney graduated from that post to become Whip, the number two position. And then President George HW Bush tapped Cheney to be Defense Secretary.
Liz Cheney says it’s fun to serve in the leadership slot as her Dad.
Cheney: “it’s moving my father has a real love of our institution.”
I asked what advice her Dad might have for her.
Cheney: “He told me not to screw it up.”
Cheney formally succeeds Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers in the position next year.
