Housecall for Health: Life Expectancy
Americans may be living longer, but that’s not the case for all parts of the country – especially in the South.

According to researchers at the University of Washington, smoking and obesity are leading to significant drops in life expectancy. The largest declines were in five counties in Mississippi. For women living in these areas, life expectancy is below 74.5 years. For men, the life expectancies were all below 67 years, putting them behind countries like Brazil and the Philippines.
