Rockabilly Creator Albert “Sonny” Burgess Dead

An American music pioneer has died.

FOX’s Paul Stevens reports:

Albert “Sonny” Burgess an early figure in what became known as rockabilly music died this past Friday in his native Arkansas. He was 88:

Burgess and his band “The Pacers” mixing rhythm and blues with country and western music and coming-up with Rockabilly, a sound that influenced Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Burgess eventually signing with Sun Records in Memphis in 1956:

Burgess, also a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. His cause of death was not released.
