Haruo Nakajima, Original Godzilla, Dead at 88
The first person to play one of the world’s most famous monsters has died.
FOX’s Chris Foster reports:
The original Godzilla died. Haruo Nakajima played the monster in a rubber suit in the original 1954 Japanese movie and 11 movies after that, stomping on little models of buildings and swinging his little arms around.
He died of pneumonia, 88-years-old. He was a stuntman in Samurai movies when he got the Godzilla job, and said he came up with the character’s movements by watching bears and elephants at a zoo.
He played other monsters including Mothra and King Kong in movies in the 60’s.
