British Baby Charlie Gard Dies after Legal Battle

He’s a British baby who captured hearts around the world in a polarizing court battle in Britain. Charlie Gard has died.

FOX’s Simon Owen reports from London:

Charlie Gard was born on August 4th, 2016, apparently healthy. But at eight weeks old he was hospitalized, and was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, causing muscle weakness and brain damage.

His parents wanted to take him to the U.S. for experimental treatment. But doctors in London blocked the move, saying it wasn’t in Charlie’s best interests.

Court hearings followed. Pope Francis and President Trump offered support.

But ultimately Charlie’s parents withdrew their application, saying time had been wasted; and had run out. His father, Chris Gard:

(Gard) “We have decided that it is no longer in Charlie’s best interests to pursue treatment and we will let our son go and be with the angels.”
