Huge Chunk of Cash Spent at Auction for a Small Piece of the Moon

Someone has just paid a lot of cash for a small piece of the moon.

    FOX’s Tom Rigatti reports:

It’s actually the collection bag used by astronaut Neil Armstrong on the historic Apollo 11 mission that contains traces of moon dust. It made quite a journey once returning to Earth.

Investigators unknowingly discovered the bag in 2003 while searching the garage of a man later convicted of stealing and selling museum artifacts. It was misidentified and sold at an online government auction. NASA fought to get it back when it was authenticated.

But in December, a federal judge ruled it legally belonged to a Chicago-area woman who bought it in 2015 for a mere $995:

(Armstrong) “That’s one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.”

And one giant leap for that woman’s bank account. The collection bag sold for $1.8 million at auction on Thursday.
