Chris Cornell’s cause of death has been released.
FOX’s Michelle Pollino reports:
The medical examiner has determined Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell committed suicide by hanging. The news devastated fans and musicians across the globe. Cornell’s voice is unmistakable….
The lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave died Wednesday night following a performance in Detroit. Cornell first came to fame in the late 80’s as lead singer of Soundgarden, the Seattle-based group at the forefront of the grunge movement alongside Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The band won two Grammys in 1995.
Cornell had a long battle with substance addiction, describing himself in a 2009 Guardian interview as “a pioneer” in his use of the opiate oxycontin. He landed in rehab in the years after Soundgarden first disbanded.
