Honoring a Fellow Baseball Fan, One Flush at a Time
Forget scattering ashes at sea or off a mountain, one man is honoring his late friend by combining two of his greatest passions.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:
Roy Riegel was a baseball fan and a plumber, so lifelong friend Tom McDonald is honoring his late pal by spreading his ashes at ballparks. But he’s not scattering them across the field. No, during play, McDonald takes some of the ashes, in a plastic bottle, and pours them down the toilet.
Riegel lives on in the plumbing of 16 stadiums, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that was a side-trip while delivering the ashes to the Indians home Progressive Field.
Roy’s brother, Hank, says he never really followed the rules, so the tribute is fitting. There are enough ashes left for one final flushing tribute, planned for the ‘Bull Durham’ film set in North Carolina.
