Phone Security: Watch How You Hold Your Phone!

Never mind selecting a strong password, researchers in Britain claim the way we hold a smartphone may be all it takes to wave away our personal details.

FOX’s Simon Owen reports from London:

Tucked inside most smartphones, there’s a motion sensor which among other things is used to figure out which way the phone is being held.

But according to researchers here in the U.K., it could also give away passwords, or the PIN code used to unlock the device.

Cyber experts at Britain’s Newcastle University, saying smartphones are inevitably slightly tilted as a user reaches for different letters or numbers, and that could be enough for a hacker to figure out what’s being entered. The researchers saying in tests, they were able to crack four-digit PINs with 100 percent accuracy in five attempts.
