Ralph Reed On Republicans Coming Together To Repeal Obamacare: Getting Rid Of 80% Of Obamacare Is A Win
“I was in a meeting with Speaker Ryan last week. I am on the phone almost every day with members of the freedom caucus, many of whom who are personal friends of mine. I wont of course disclose those private conversations to your entire audience but will tell you this, there are some ideas proposed internally, there is some language being written that I think can square this circle and get us there. We are not going to be able to get everything we want on a repeal of Obamacare in a spending bill because of the rules on what you can do on a tax and spending bill. If I offer an amendment to the budget, it can only affect taxes and spending, it can’t make policy. But we can get rid of 75-80% of Obamacare with a spending bill under the reconciliation rules and I live by Ronald Reagan rule which is an 80% win is not a 20% loss and an 80% friend is not a 20% enemy.”
—Ralph Reed on working out the differences between the Freedom Caucus & Speaker Ryan over repealing Obamacare
Ralph Reed, founder and chairman of the Faith & Freedom Coalition and was a senior advisor to the Bush/Cheney campaigns in 2000 & 2004, spoke with Kilmeade & Friends to discuss his meeting with Speaker Paul Ryan and his daily conversations with members of the Freedom Caucus to help hammer out the differences between conservative and moderate republicans on repealing and replacing Obamacare. Reed also discussed the need for republicans and the Trump administration to multitask on getting the repeal of Obamacare, tax reform and infrastructure done before a possible government shutdown at the end of the month.
Plus, Reed weighed in on the democrat’s filibuster of Judge Gorsuch’s appointment to the Supreme Court & how President Trump’s economic policies will improve economic growth.
