Busy University of Oregon Grad is Back on Broadway in “Groundhog Day The Musical”
Actor John Sanders just wrapped his role in the Tony-winning hit “Matilda the Musical” on New Year’s Day, but he didn’t sit idle for long. The Northern California native jumped right into rehearsals for “Groundhog Day The Musical.” Based on the hit 1993 movie and written for the stage by the film’s screenwriter Danny Rubin, the show is now in previews, opening April 17 at the August Wilson Theatre. Sanders plays “Needlenose” Ned Ryerson and juggles his Broadway job with a busy voice-over career, along with roles in television and films.
The University of Oregon honors grad talks with FOX’s Jane Metzler about “Groundhog Day The Musical;” his days as a struggling actor in Chicago and New York…working a string of unusual jobs to make ends meet. He also makes sure to mention how proud he is of his sister, a Houston physician and her husband, a NASA astronaut, who gets a kick out of going backstage.
