Barn Yarn: Retirees Make Sweaters for Chickens

People aren’t the only ones getting the benefit of a group of retired knitters in Massachusetts.

FOX’s Tonya J. Powers has details:

The knitting club at Fuller Village Retirement Home in Milton gets together and knit sweaters. But the sweater recipients aren’t grandkids, they’re chickens…

Certain breeds housed at a nearby estate are from tropical climates, and just can’t deal with Northeast winters. So, knitters like Libby Kaplan make them little sweaters. Even she wasn’t sure about this at first:

(Kaplan) “When they said they were gonna make the sweaters for the chickens, I thought it was the most foolish thing I ever heard in my life.”

But estate spokeswoman Erica Max says it’s helping:

(Max) “But we have seen a sudden increase in our egg production since these sweaters have gone on.”

A lot of love from a little barn yarn.
