Utah to Lower Blood Alcohol Limit for Driving

    The state of Utah could soon have the strictest DUI threshold in the nation.

    FOX’s Kathleen Maloney reports:

    Utah lawmakers have voted to lower the limit for a driver’s blood alcohol content to 0.05. That’s down from 0.08, which is where it stands for most drivers across the country.

    Governor Gary Herbert is expected to sign the bill which would take effect December 30 of 2018. Just in time for New Years Eve.

    The lower limit would mean a 150 pound man could get a DUI if he’s behind the wheel after two beers and a 120 pound woman could be considered impaired after one drink.

    Supporters believe it will keep roads safer, but bars and restaurants say it will hurt tourism in a state that’s already considered unfriendly to drinkers.
