Native American Tribes Hit Roadblock in Fight Against Pipeline
A judge has ruled against Native American tribes in favor of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
FOX’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:
The Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Sioux tribes had asked the judge to temporarily stop pipeline construction, but the judge found their latest religious argument was brought up too late and likely wouldn’t succeed.
The tribes had argued that the pipeline path ran through burial sites and that oil could threaten their water supply. But the Judge said new religious claims about the prophesy of the Black Snake, aka the oil pipeline, and how it would impact water used in religious ceremonies would not harm their religious freedom.
However, this part of the legal fight was just to temporarily stop construction, and while oil may start flowing this month, the broader legal fight is not over.
