U.S. Soccer’s New Policy Says All Players Must Stand During National Anthem
Colin Kaepernick reportedly plans to stand for the national anthem this year, and he won’t be alone. One sport isn’t giving players a choice on the matter.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:
U.S. soccer instituting a new policy requiring all players to, “stand respectfully for the national anthem, not only at games, but at any event where the team is represented.”
Last year, midfielder Megan Rapinoe took a knee during the anthem on multiple occasions, in support of the protests led by 49er’s quarterback Colin Kaepernick:
(Rapinoe) “We need to have a more thoughtful two-sided conversation about racial issues in this country and being a gay American, I know what it means to look at the flag and not have it protect all your liberties. It was just something small that I could do.”
The new policy was put in place last month, ahead of the on-going she-believes cup, featuring the top-ranked American women’s team.
Rapinoe was left off the roster for that competition.
