Partisan Pets of Politics

Some sad news for Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence on the campaign trail and why it’s a good idea for animals to occupy the White House.

FOX’s Jill Nado has this week’s “Take a Paws”:

Condolences to Republican Vice Presidential candidate Governor Mike Pence, as his beloved dog Maverick has died. Pence sending out a tweet, saying Heavy hearts today. Our beagle of 13 years passed away quietly last night.

Other politicians in the White House race love dogs, too. Hillary Clinton has a poodle named Tally and mixed breed named Maisie. And Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Senator Tim Kaine has Gina, a mixed breed terrier.

We asked Donald Trump’s campaign about any pets in the family, but got no response.

But if Mr. Trump does get to the White House, he may want to heed the words of late White House historian William Bushong:

(Bushong) “They obviously are companions, bring comfort and many Presidents and First Ladies have enjoyed their pets in their private quarters, it gives them a sense of connection too I think.”

President Harry Truman said if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. President Obama did and:

(President Obama) “I finally got a friend.”
