A milestone in the number of Syrian refugees now living in the U.S.
FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Washington:
The 10,000th Syrian refugee has been admitted to the U.S., marking a goal President Obama had hoped to reach by the end of the fiscal year next month, millions in Syria have been forced to flee a civil war and persecution from ISIS.
White House Spokesman Josh Earnest says the President directed more resources to pick up the pace:
(Earnest) “Collecting bio-metric information, doing in-person interviews, doing background checks, running their information through a variety of national security and international databases.”
The Syrian refugee program has been controversial, many Republican lawmakers warn extremists could use it to get into the country.
