President Obama Seeks to Close GITMO

The Obama administration is whittling down the number of detainees held at the U.S. prison in Cuba.

FOX’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

The Pentagon says 15 prisoners were sent to the United Arab Emirates in the biggest release from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba under President Obama’s watch.

Only 61 detainees now remain at Gitmo, down from nearly 800 during the post 9/11 years. The latest batch of released prisoners had mostly been held without charge for some 14 years.

Closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay was one of President Obama campaign promises in 2008.
