Save the Last Dance For Me: Teen Hosts Prom Before Checking Into Hospice Care

A terminally ill Wisconsin girl has had one big night out.

    FOX’s Dave Anthony reports:

    Jerika Bolen’s mom wanted to:

(Bolen) “Make this the best night of her life.”

That’s what Friday was for the 14-year-old Wisconsin girl who doesn’t have much time left to live. Mom organized a prom:

(Bolen) “It makes my heart explode.”

Hundreds showed up. She got a dress, fancy flowers, a YouTube star she loves was there. Her favorite boy band sent a video message:

(Bolen) “It’s so crazy that people want to come for little old me, I’m nothing.”

Jerika told her mom her battle with spinal muscular atrophy, which destroys nerve cells, was too excruciatingly painful. She’s never walked, can only use some muscles and wants to go to hospice next month:

(Bolen) “It was a hard day that day.”

(Bolen) “I said Jerika I love you that much, I will not let you suffer.”

So they’ll remove the ventilator and Jerika will die.
