NBA Teams are Dishing Out Big Bucks
If the U.S. economy sees a boost this month, you might be able to blame the NBA.
FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:
$9,000 a second, that’s what NBA free agency is worth. Teams have committed some $3 billion to new contracts in just the first four days of free agency or $9,000 every second.
That includes contracts like Kevin Durant’s two-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, a contract he can opt out of after next season to negotiate an even richer contract.
Hassan Whiteside of the Miami Heat, meanwhile, made $980,000 last year. His new four-year contract will pay him $98 million, he’ll pass his career earnings just a dozen games into the new season.
It’s all thanks to a new TV package that kicks in this year, the increase in revenue driving the salary cap from $70 million per team last season to more than $94 million this year.
