From Washington: Why DOGE Will Face An Early Test This Fall

Virginia’s 2025 governor’s race will be the first real test of public sentiment on the Department of Government Efficiency’s cuts and the flurry of executive actions under the Trump administration. Virginia is home to many federal employees, some of whom may see their jobs impacted by DOGE’s effort to cut government waste. Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears is currently the leading Republican in the governor’s race, and she joins to discuss how DOGE could impact the race, her vision for the state, as well as hints about how she would campaign in a state that President Trump narrowly lost.

Several Democratic lawmakers have expressed their opposition to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who outraged many in his party last week when he led the charge to to break the filibuster and helped the House Republicans’ continuing resolution, or CR, advance. The move prevented a partial government shutdown. Despite facing pushback from his constituents, Senator Schumer has consistently defended his decision, claiming a shutdown would have been disastrous for Democrats and the country. FOX News Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram joins to discuss Schumer’s choice and other debates in Congress, including the push to permit proxy voting for some members.
