Lawmakers Push Bipartisan TikTok Bill: ‘Divest From Chinese Ownership, Or Get Banned’

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are demanding TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, sell the social media app to an American owner or be banned in the United States. The House will vote on the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” later this week, and teens are now calling their representatives in protest. This is not the first time Congress has proposed such legislation, but it’s inching closer to being passed, with President Biden saying he will sign the bill if it makes it to his desk. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) joins the Rundown to explain what this bill would actually mean for TikTok and the national security threat posed by TikTok’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that the next step in his country’s efforts to defeat the terror group Hamas is to go after militants in the southern Gazan city of Rafah. However, President Joe Biden says doing so will cross a “red line,” publicly warning Netanyahu that the effort could hurt Israel more than it helps. FOX News foreign correspondent Trey Yingst joins the podcast to give the latest developments from inside Tel Aviv, Israel and shares how civilians in Gaza are coping with food insecurity as the Muslims’ sacred holiday of Ramadan begins.
