McCarthy OUT for Real?!

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy will not seek re-election in 2024.

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced he will not seek re-election in 2024 and will be departing the House at the end of the year.

Whoa, I did not see that one coming!

But, after all the drama and the hoops he has had to jump through at the hands of his fellow Republicans, I don’t blame former Speaker Kevin McCarthy for throwing in the towel.

McCarthy battled through an unprecedented 15 rounds of voting to become speaker in January and was pushed out by Matt Gaetz and pals only 10 months later.

Whether you’re a fan of McCarthy or not, it was a bad look for the GOP to torpedo and sabotage one of our own.

I don’t feel too badly for him though, I’m sure he’s landed a cushy lobbying or consulting job and will be cashing in on a new opportunity.

I am far more concerned about the already fragile House Republicans. We were already battling with a very slim majority and now this.

The in-fighting and cannibalization of the Right might make for good TV, but it sets a very bad tone for 2024.

Can we beat Democrats if all we do is beat up each other?!
