Board-Certified Radiologist and Fox News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier joins Fox Across America With guest host Joe Concha to share her thoughts on the reemergence of mask mandates in certain areas of the U.S. due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, and whether she believes this kind of action is necessary.
“Honestly, it depends on what you read, because for every study that some points to saying that, hey, by the way, these masks decrease transmission, I can show you three more that show that they don’t. So people really pick and choose the data that they want to look at and kind of abide by. But if you look at the overall consensus on the data, yes, if people are regularly wearing high quality masks such as the N-95, you do have a decreased risk of transmission. When it comes to the cloth masks and even some of the surgical masks, it really doesn’t have an effect. Now, that’s not to say that you don’t decrease your overall risk of contracting COVID if you are properly and constantly wearing a mask. But the effect it has on the community transmission isn’t really affected by these mandates and people masking. So it should really be based on an individual preference and not in community or mandate settings.”
