Bill Melugin, national correspondent for Fox News joined the Guy Benson Show to discuss his reporting on the continued surge of migrants attempting to illegally cross into the United States through the southern border. In San Antonio, Texas Fifty-one migrants were found dead in a tractor-trailer from an apparent human smuggling attempt.

Texas Republican officials quickly placed blame on President Biden and his border policies. With Texas Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) saying the President bears some responsibility for the tragedy in San Antonio. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre shot back at critics telling reporters, “The fact of the matter is, the border is closed.” In May there were 239,416 migrant encounters at the U.S southern border according to Customs and Border Protection officials.

Melugin disputed the White House’s claim that the southern border is ‘closed’ by saying,

“It’s a falsehood of the biggest magnitude. And I roll my eyes every time I hear it. If the border is closed, why have there been more than 445,000 known gateways just since October? Why have there been more than 200,000 people crossing illegally every month for the past several? Here’s one stat that really jumps out to me, guys. Think of it this way. Since the year 2000, there had only been one single month where there were more than 200,000 illegal crossings in the US under Joe Biden. And it’s already happened five times. So in the previous 20 years. It happened one time. Joe Biden takes office. It’s now happened five times in about a year and a half. The border is not closed.”
