Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) Defends Border Agents: “We Can’t Beat Them Up, They’ve Been Through Hell”
On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), whose district is in the center of a major immigration controversy, explains why Americans should be celebrating the work of border patrol agents instead of having a distorted view of the work they do.
“These agents, they have been through so much, they’ve been through hell. They’ve been through so much over the past several months. I mean, it literally is as bad as it has ever been. They go to work every day. And, you know what my take away is? The reason why they go to work, it’s not for a paycheck. It’s not for retirement. They go to work because of the person standing next to them. I mean, it reminds me a lot of my time in combat you’re in the trenches with the person next to you. And it all was terrible, but at least you all were together. And we can’t beat them up, this is a policy decision. Their job is to execute policy and they’re doing the best they can. You’re several hundred people and you’ve got to control a crowd of 15,000. It’s an impossible situation.”
