J.D. Vance, author of “Hillbilly Elegy” and Ohio Republican Senate candidate, addressed the controversy over his tweet saying Alex Jones is a far more reputable source of information than Rachel Maddow. Vance said, “I was just kind of trolling everybody.” Vance explained the point he was making is that Alex Jones is a guy who says some crazy stuff but he also says things that are occasionally interesting. While Maddow is a person who has fallen for every conspiracy theory, every hoax, that has been popular in left wing circles and people assume she is reputable source of information. Vance thinks it is important for folks on the left to acknowledge that some of the sources of information they see as legitimate are as consistently wrong as anybody in American public life today. Vance agrees with Joe Rogan’s assessment of Alex Jones and does not agree with the desire to censor people and believes it is not the sign of a healthy society to stop people from having their voices heard.
