Senator John McCain is ending his treatment for an aggressive brain cancer.

The McCain family says the Arizona Senator has chosen to discontinue medical treatment, writing the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict.

Senator John McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer last year and his family says has surpassed expectation for survival.

McCain is in his sixth term, but has been away from the Capitol since December.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey calls McCain an American hero, always putting country before self.
