Tough news for some loyal fans of Mario.

FOX's Eammonn Dignam reports:

Mario has held many jobs over the years, including doctor, go-kart driver and fighter, but he has just lost his day job.

Nintendo of Japan posting on its website that Mario is no longer a plumber. Arguably the most famous gaming mascot. He made his debut in the original 'Donkey Kong' game as "Jumpman" fighting a giant ape who had kidnapped his former girlfriend Pauline.

'Overwatch' professional player Jay Won known online as "Sinatraa" signing a contract with NRG eSports for $150,000 a year. The San Francisco based team is part of the official 'Overwatch' league run by Blizzard.

This doesn't include any endorsements. The league minimum is $50,000 a year. A long way from when mom used to yell!
