“Bubble Boy” Bouncing From Big Screen to Broadway?

Based on the 2001 film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, the creators and cast of “Bubble Boy: the Musical” have taken an unusual approach to attract high-powered Broadway producers: they’ve released the cast album first. For Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the screenwriters behind the “Despicable Me” movies and other hits, turning their first produced-film into a musical, provided a chance to revisit favorite material. And getting Tony-winner Alice Ripley to star as the “Bubble Boy’s” controlling mother was like hitting the musical theatre lottery.

FOX’s Jane Metzler talks with Cinco Paul and Alice Ripley about the show and their careers in a freewheeling conversation that touches on everything from student loans to sharing a bathroom with ten siblings. And in case you’re wondering, Cinco Paul was born on Cinco de Mayo…the childhood nickname stuck.
