FOX's Michelle Pollino reports:

Their is a new Latin king: Daddy Yankee has become the first Latin artist to hit No. 1 on Spotify, surpassing Ed Sheeran to grab the No. 1 spot.

The Puerto Rican superstar reached that status with hits like "Gasolina," "Shaky Shaky" and "Despacito," a song co-written with Luis Fonsi. That song features Justin Bieber.

Yankee has gone past 44 million monthly listeners to reach the first global spot, the artist released a statement saying, "Being the first Latin artist to reach #1 in Spotify marks a precedent not only for my career but for the industry in general. The musical digital revolution has unified the world and this is the proof. We are all in the same boat with no labels or stereotypes."
