French officials releasing more information about an attack at the Notre Dame Cathedral.

FOX’s Simon Owen in London has more:

A man shot by police after he attacked an officer with a hammer. Both the attacker and the officer were injured. This happening right outside the cathedral in central Paris: one of France’s most popular tourist spots.

French interior minister Gerard Collomb saying the attacker shouted “This is for Syria”, and was also carrying kitchen knives.

Visitors to the cathedral have described being held inside for a while as the incident unfolded. The French counter-terrorism office is investigating.
