NASA Wants to “Soak Up the Sun” Again

    NASA announcing, a new mission.

    FOX’s Eben Brown reports:

NASA wants to visit the sun and will launch a probe next year. It’s being named for professor Eugene Parker, who discovered solar winds. He’s about to turn 90-years-old. He’s excited the probe will travel to a spot closer than four million miles from the sun:

(Parker) “Where the sun is only 570 times more intense than it is at the orbit of Earth, and it is possible to operate a complement of instruments peeking out from behind the heat shield.”

The last time NASA sent a craft towards the sun, it never got closer than 27 million miles back in 1976.
