We owe a lot to our mother, but as we grow older, sometimes that relationship falls apart. So how can you rebuild the bond you once had?

FOX's Ashley Papa has a Mother's Day edition of 'FOX on Love':

The relationships we have with our mothers are one of the most important relationships we'll have in our lifetime. Sherry Maysonave, an expert in nonverbal communication, says mothers shape who we are early and later in life:

(Maysonave) "Your mother is your first love. She is a powerhouse in your subconscious mind whether you want her to be or not and your relationship with her affects your overall ability to love."

According to Psychology Today, 80 to 90 percent of adult women wish they had better relationships with their mothers. Maysonave says as much as we believe our mothers are perfect, it's important to understand they're still human:

(Maysonave) "Just the word mother inspires that iconic vision of this amazing woman that fills all of your needs at all times and just flows with unconditional love at all times and that is just not realistic."

If you want to show your mom how much you love her this Mother's Day, Maysonave says little things like, written notes, and one-on-one time is all it takes to show your appreciation.
