Four of Chicago's most powerful Aldermen are banding together and demanding the city's police officers be immediately equipped with the same firepower that gangs have.

FOX's Jeff Monosso reports:

It's a matter of life or death says Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano. He and three other Alderman, all former cops, say that officers are outgunned by gang members armed with AR-15s and AK-47s:

(Napolitano) "This gives distance to the offenders. This gives the ability to officers not being able to take cover."

Two police officers are recovering after being ambushed last week and three gang members were killed, all with powered weapons and despite that, there is opposition.

(Man) "It's a bad day when police have an AK."

Some residents here think officers armed with military style weapons would lead to more civilians shootings.
