More Troops Could Be Heading to Afghanistan
Should more American troops be sent to Afghanistan? That’s being discussed at the Pentagon.
FOX’s Malini Wilkes reports from Washington:
3-5,000 more U.S troops could be heading to Afghanistan to join the 8400 already there, under a new proposal by military and foreign policy advisors. It’s a big shift in strategy to confront the Taliban with more force and break a deadlock in the 15-year-old war.
The Washington Post reports the plan would authorize the Pentagon, not the White House to set troop numbers in Afghanistan.
President Trump is expected to make a decision on the recommendations before a May 25 NATO meeting in Brussels.
