President Trump has fired FBI Director James Comey.

In a surprise decision, FBI Director James Comey has been fired by President Trump.

The Justice Department recommended that he be fired based upon his handling of the Clinton email server investigation.

In a statement, the President said, "The FBI is one of our Nation's most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement." A search for a new permanent FBI Director will begin immediately.

Comey had been serving a 10-year term as FBI Director.
