Government Shutdown Avoided… For Now

Congress buys more time to avoid a government shutdown.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

With time running out on current government funding, Congress made quick work of a seven-day extension, giving negotiators until next Friday to hammer out a long-term trillion dollar spending package:

(McCarthy) “I have hope to get to the agreement as early as today.”

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy says he does not think another short-term deal will be needed next week. Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer also citing progress.

(Schumer) “If we get an agreement we will see increases in NIH funding, year round pell grants, housing assistance.”

House Republicans, meantime, are leaving town for the weekend, still trying to muster enough votes on a revised health care bill.
