Jason Chaffetz Won’t Run for Re-election

The congressman who led several high profile investigations on Capitol Hill says he’s ready to spend more time with his family.

FOX’s Jared Halpern has more from Washington:

The chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee, the panel that investigated Hillary Clinton’s email server, will not run for re-election next year.

Utah Republican Jason Chaffetz saying in a statement that after prayerful consideration and consulting with his family, he will not be a candidate for any office in 2018, noting in a Facebook post he has spent more than 1500 nights away from home.

Chaffetz has never faced a difficult re-election in his Republican-heavy district. Still, he has faced new criticism from Democrats after announcing his committee would not investigate President Trump’s business ties.

In an interview with a Salt Lake City radio station, Chaffetz did not rule out running for Governor in 2020.
