Florida Gov. Calls for Resignation of Local Prosecutor

A battle between Florida’s governor and a local prosecutor in Orlando heats up as the governor reassigns more murder cases because the prosecutor refuses to pursue the death penalty.

FOX’s Eben Brown reports from Miami:

Florida governor Rick Scott is taking 21 capital murder cases away from prosecutor Aramis Ayala, assigning them to a different prosecutor, all because Ayala states she will not seek to execute a murder convict. Scott wants her to resign:

(Ayala) “I have taken a position that hasn’t violated my oath, that hasn’t violated the law, that hasn’t violated the Constitution.”

Ayala has only been in office a few months, and just weeks ago she announced she would not seek capital punishment for a suspected cop killer. That case, too, was re-assigned.
