Guns are Pretty Popular in Minnesota

Minnesota is becoming a pretty popular place for gun owners and the NCAA’s National Rifle Championship begins this week.

A heckuva lot more people in Minnesota are carrying these days. The state reports more than 71,000 permits were granted by local sheriffs in Minnesota last year. That’s up 60 percent from 2015.

Meanwhile, in South Carolina, lawmakers hope to tighten up the way the state does background checks for gun purchases. The check would get extended to five days from three, but would require courts and law enforcement to enter their information quickly into databases.

The NCAA’s National Rifle Championship begins tomorrow, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus. Texas Christian University still leads the rankings, but West Virginia is hoping to pick up yet another title. They’ve won the past four. All eyes will be on West Virginia’s Ginny Thrasher, who at last summer’s Olympics in Rio brought back home a gold medal in air rifle.
