Another of President Trump's cabinet nominees has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

FOX's Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:

Retired neurosurgeon and former Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson will serve as the next Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, after he handily won Senate approval:

"The yays are 58, the nays are 41. And the nomination is confirmed."

Carson has no formal experience in housing, but supporters cited his impoverished upbringing in a rough Detroit neighborhood. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry will likely get a full vote on leading the Energy Department, Friday.
